Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1/2 onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1.5 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheese
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt, pepper, and thyme to taste

Instructions

  1. 1

    Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. 2

Brown beef with onion and garlic; season well and let cool slightly.

  3. 3

Cut puff pastry into rectangles, fill with beef, fold over, and crimp the edges with a fork.

  4. 4

Brush pastries with egg wash and bake 20-25 minutes until golden and puffed.

  5. 5

For the potatoes: layer slices in a buttered dish, pour over cream, season, and top with cheese.

  6. 6

Bake scalloped potatoes 35-40 minutes until bubbly and tender.

  7. 7

Serve each pastry over a scoop of scalloped potatoes.

Liz's Tip:

Keep the puff pastry cold until the moment it goes in the oven for the flakiest layers.
